St. Louis Science Center Partnership: Public Outreach and VR Education

Nate Haskins participated in several events hosted by the St. Louis Science Center, focusing on informing the public about virtual reality (VR) technology. At the PixelPop event, geared toward game developers and enthusiasts, he delivered a panel discussion clarifying the emerging VR landscape. This presentation garnered positive feedback and led to connections with lawyers and developers.

Nate also presented to a general audience at a Science Center VR-focused event. He offered insights into VR options and technological advancements, gave away VR headsets, and fostered a positive experience. Additionally, he hosted a table where he demoed a collaborative VR video game project, providing many attendees with their first-ever VR experience.

Following the VR presentation, a Science Center representative approached Nate with a collaboration opportunity. They filmed Nate, along with other AR/VR experts, for an educational video to be showcased in the Science Center’s new “Game Exploration” exhibit. This became a long-standing and successful exhibit, with their video continuing to educate visitors for years (and to this day).

Nate further contributed to the “Game Exploration” exhibit by providing his expertise to bring in local game developer arcade cabinets. He developed software solutions, consulted extensively on hardware compatibility, and worked closely with the Science Center to ensure a seamless setup. This resulted in a popular and enduring feature of the exhibit, with local St. Louis game developers’ games getting tens of thousands of plays.
